Lidl Estonia is handing over 29 business-class laptops that have reached their 29th cycle to partner GreenDice, to extend the lifespan of the devices and thereby reduce electronic waste. The reuse of laptops is part of Lidl's broader environmental strategy, which focuses on the sustainable use of resources and the implementation of circular economy principles in everyday business operations.
Lidl's used, but still very well-functioning computers are directed to GreenDice for office workers. Instead of being left to sit in storage or going to disposal, the devices reach Estonians through GreenDice's community service, who can continue to use them with technical support and warranty.
Lidl Estonia's responsible business consultant Liis Kiviloo emphasizes that sustainability is an important pillar for Lidl in every area of operation: "We believe that big changes start with everyday smart choices. Sustainability is in our DNA, and saving resources does not only mean large factories, optimizing packaging, or logistics for us, but also what we do at our office desks. Collaborating with GreenDice is a heartfelt decision for us: we do not want our employees' well-maintained tools to become waste. Thanks to this collaboration, we can extend their lifespan while contributing to the growth of digital capabilities."
GreenDice's CEO Argo Alaniit is pleased that more and more organizations are choosing transparency: "For Lidl Estonia, it is important that the company's operations align with sustainable development goals. The controlled reuse of IT equipment and the recycling of materials directly helps to reduce the CO2 footprint that would arise from the production of new devices. With GreenDice's service, Lidl can see the entire lifecycle of the equipment transparently and measurably."
The Estonian technology company GreenDice helps reduce the overconsumption of IT equipment by making quality business-class devices accessible to everyone. Starting from 6.90 euros per month, anyone can use decent devices with full maintenance, warranty, and IT support. Transparent monitoring of the equipment's life cycles with the help of the community allows companies to accurately report the CO2 footprint of the devices and eventually direct them into material recycling.
