SEB and GreenDice will launch an innovative service in Tõrva municipality this fall, which will provide all 7th to 12th grade students with personal computers for their studies. This is the first municipality in Estonia where such a comprehensive solution is being implemented, developing students' digital skills and creating equal and modern opportunities for learning.
Tõrva municipality is the first in Estonia to provide personal computers for students from 7th grade onwards in its schools starting this fall. SEB has been contributing to the digital development of Tõrva municipality in cooperation with GreenDice for several years – the bank's well-maintained devices are used by teachers, municipal employees, young people participating in the digital ambassadors program, and local residents. From the new school year, this impact will be even greater, as more than 250 students will have the opportunity to use personal and modern digital tools along with additional training and technical support.
“Our biggest expectation is that we can offer our students modern digital tools along with a comprehensive solution, so that their studies are diverse and do not depend solely on the school's limited budget or the resources available at home. The planned service currently covers very well the gap that many families have - limited access to modern tools, which is why schoolwork is done at home on a smartphone or tablet (if they even have those),” said the head of Tõrva Gymnasium and Tõrva School.Maarja Kallis.
SEB joined the platform created by GreenDice in 2023 and has since forwarded 1,700 different IT devices, including 320 desktop computers, 585 laptops, and 199 monitors.
“We are pleased that we can contribute to improving the digital capabilities of Estonian schools in cooperation with GreenDice. Supporting education is an investment in the future, but it is equally important to do so responsibly. By redirecting our used but quality devices for reuse, we reduce environmental impact and support the principles of the circular economy,” said the head of sustainability at SEB.Laura Kostiak.
The service offered by GreenDice is not limited to just facilitating devices – as part of the service, the cloud server systems of educational institutions are modernized, secure user profiles for students are created, and necessary policies are kept up to date. Additionally, GreenDice provides students with IT support services that guarantee prompt assistance in case of technical issues.
